Leather is both highly resistant and very hygienic. Leather aids perspiration and therefore helps prevent fungal and other skin and foot ailments that result from the buildup of moisture inside the shoe. It is in fact said that leather “breathes” as it permits the escape of the water vapour produced by the human body. The particular structure of leather, which consists of a three-dimensional interweaving of fibres of the protein collagen, also means that leather offers good heat insulation, of particular value in winter. Conversely, it has good electrical conductivity and so the use of leather shoes can for example avoid any unpleasant “electric shock” sensation precisely because the body’s electrical balance is guaranteed.

Master craftsmen perform the final-stage colouring by hand to give the shoe an authentic, original look.
